Coronavirus: Diary of a cafe owner #2

Coronavirus: Diary of a cafe owner #2

EMPTY. Cold. Echoing.
Handing over the takeaway afternoon teas on Mother’s Day really brought home how the cafe has lost its function.
But each day we tell ourselves that it’s not forever.
That some day soon the sanctions will be lifted and while we might have been stopped in our tracks, we will find our place again in our community.
Because we are among the lucky ones. Our purpose has been stolen by this virus but it could have taken so much more, it could be so much worse as sadly many families are experiencing.
So while The Glost House is closed, I have been repurposing my energies.
We were able to make a donation to @affordablefood2 when we cleared out our kitchens.
And while I already work two days a week at Newcastle-Staffs Foodbank, I have been donating a few more hours of my time to the charity.
So my plea at the moment is, if you can spare it, please put the money you might have spent on a coffee and a cake at The Glost House toward the Crowdfunder appeal Newcastle-Staffs Foodbank has launched to combat a drop in donations.
The Glost House was established as somewhere to enjoy food, somewhere to take the time to savour a few minutes’ peace and a bite to eat.
Food can be a treat, it can be a pleasure but it is also a basic necessity that should not be denied to anyone, especially those experiencing hardship and crisis.
At The Glost House we try to bake from the heart, this is one way we hope to recapture our purpose by spreading the love.
Thank you for all your support.
